NAMM 2012 Taylor Builders Reserve Ukulele
11January 19, 2012 by Tim
The first thing that I had to see at NAMM this year was the Taylor Guitars ukulele. I had heard so much about it that I had to see it first, and I brought some better players than I to play it.
Specs:
Tenor: 20 fret
Tuners: Geared (We will find out who made them)
Nut & saddle: Bone
Top: Solid Koa
Sides: Solid Koa
Back: Solid Koa
Neck: Mahogany?
Strings: Bridge Pins
Finish: High Gloss
I am not going to write a whole review on it since you know it is awesome. Just know that it is super light, very responsive and what a high end uke should embody. I am very privileged to be able to have seen it and played one since only 30 have been made as a set (A matched guitar comes with it)
I will be updating this as we get more information after we meet with Andy Powers (If we can find him). Say tuned
Wow.. if this was your only post from NAMM I’d be satisfied with your coverage. I love Taylor. Glad I found your site!!
[…] out Ukeeku.com’s first look at the new Taylor Ukulele at […]
Sounded kind of quiet when Colin played it – much louder when Nick took his turn. I think Colin was turned away from the camera more…
So…it’s beautiful. Is it spectacular? Let us know…
If I can help… I think tuners are Gotoh STEALTH-KEY. That’s what I can Say from Paris ! Thanks a lot for the blog and keep on make us travelling !
A bit on the small guitar side, isn’t ? I’d really like to hear one with a high G, played ukulele-like. However, it’s beautiful indeed. OK it’s Taylor, no wonder. And if it’s so lightweight, then that’s a good sign it being more on the ukulele side than the video could show. I want to hear more about it (in case i get suddenly rich…) Thanks !
Ooooh. Beautiful stuff. Taylor is all quality too.
I think your demo guys are hot.
Yeah, I got to look at their butts all day. It was dreamy
I just bought the K24ce….LOVE…but now I wish I had waited for the set! I want the matching Uke!!!
Thing is, and I am quite disappointed by this (perhaps just how things are done and this is my newbie naivety), the Koa on the others doesn’t look anything like that. I have held and played one (not at Namm) and seen another one reviewed with pics and in both cases the koa looked decidedly ordinary. At that price, I think they could have made an effort to make sure the koa was as figured as the Namm offering. Just my two…
I have been looking to buy the Taylor koa acoustic electric 24ce and matching koa ukulele. Is it a tenor size? Did they actually make this set to purchase? Where can I find one set???
